ROXBURY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A tractor-trailer jackknifed in a fatal collision involving an SUV early Wednesday on Interstate 80 in Roxbury, New Jersey.
Part of I-80, including the Route 15 South ramp to I-80, was closed after the crash just before 4:30 a.m.
Shawn Burckure, 52, from Andover, NJ, was driving a Jeep SUV east on I-80, when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway, traveled through an "emergency U-Turn" area and struck the end of the guardrail.
After the initial collision, the Jeep continued forward into the westbound lanes and was struck by a Freightliner tractor trailer that was traveling west on I-80.
As a result of the crash, Burckure suffered fatal injuries.
There were no other injuries reported on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
Fuel spilled over large swathes of the highway, adding to the cleanup required to clear and reopen the road.
