Police are investigating a shooting in which three students were injured near the University of Iowa early on Sunday, the campus and law enforcement said.

"At this time, multiple victims have been taken to area hospitals to be treated for wounds suffered in the shooting," the Iowa City Police Department said in a statement. "No information on their conditions is available at this time."

Police said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a "large fight" on the 100 block of East College Street at 1:46 a.m., adding that, "Arriving officers heard gunfire." Gunshots were reported near College and Clinton streets in Iowa City, the campus said in an alert.

University President Barb Wilson said three University of Iowa students were injured in the shooting.

"The university is in close communication with local law enforcement and will share more information as we are able. For now, I encourage you to rely on official university communications for updates," Wilson said.

Video shared with ABC News shows dozens frantically running. The person filming said they heard at least five gunshots ring out.

No arrests have been made, police said.

"Moments like this can feel overwhelming. They can make a large campus feel suddenly very small. Many of you may be worried, upset, or unsure how to process what has happened. Please know that you are not alone in that," Wilson said.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
