JACKSON HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WABC) -- It was early Wednesday morning on a quiet tree-lined street in Queens. A 35-year-old woman was on her way home from work when a man stepped off the sidewalk to put on a mask of some kind. Moments later he attacked the woman, threatened her with a blade, and raped her.

The attack occurred on Wednesday at 4:30 a.m. in the vicinity of 84th Street and 35th Avenue in Jackson Heights. Few people in the neighborhood had heard about what happened.

"I gotta talk to my wife and daughter," said Edgar Lopez.

The suspect ran off down an alley, climbed over a fence leading to 83rd Street and fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man who is 5'4" with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a mask, a dark colored shirt and jeans.

Police say the man first demanded money from the victim, then put a sharp object to her throat. They are hoping anyone with information will call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
