MINNESOTA (WABC) -- A longtime racecar driver from New Jersey is dead after crashing his car into a concrete wall during a race in Minnesota.

Mel Shaw, of Voorhees, died Sunday while driving the 2.5-mile road course at Brainerd International Raceway.

Reports say his sports car left the track and crashed into an outside barrier.

Shaw had been racing for more than four decades.

He was 70 years old.
