Man rescued after falling off jet ski

KEANSBURG, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man who fell off his jet ski was rescued from the waters of Raritan Bay in New Jersey by NYPD helicopters.



On Thursday afternoon, NYPD Aviation received a radio call of a person stranded in the water off the coast of Keansburg. He actually called 911 with his cellphone, which he said was kept in a water-tight container.

Two NYPD helicopters responded to the location and the patrol helicopter spotted the victim, a 21 year-old man.

An Air and Sea Rescue helicopter hovered 10 feet above the water line and dispatched two divers to make contact with the man.



After doing an overall assessment, a basket attached to a cable was lowered to the water and the jet skier was rescued.



After the victim and both divers were securely on the helicopter, he was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital for observation.
