NEW YORK (WABC) -- People hoping to stamp out cancer got the rare opportunity to camp out in one of Manhattan's historic neighborhoods.

Hundreds of participants are taking part in the American Cancer Society's annual "Relay for Life."

During the overnight event at the South Street Seaport, at least one participant from each team is on the track running or walking at all times.

This year's event raised more than 100,000 dollars for cancer research.
