RICHMOND HILL (WABC) -- Police are still searching for the shooter after a man and woman were attacked in a car in Queens on Friday night.
The victim is recovering at Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive.
A suspect driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was chasing a man in a blue BMW through the streets of Jamaica and Richmond Hill around 8:30 p.m. Friday, witnesses said. Police said the victims were leaving a store when they first noticed the suspect following them. The Jeep eventually pinned the BMW against a barrier at the Van Wyck Service Road and 94th Street.
According to police, the suspect then got out of his Jeep and fired one shot through the window of the BMW, hitting the driver once in the groin. He also pistol whipped a female passenger in the BMW and stole three chains she was wearing. She was not seriously hurt.
Police are looking for the gunman, who drove off after hitting several other cars. He fled north on the Van Wyck Service Road and eventually abandoned the Jeep on 134th Street and 97th Avenue.
"I saw one guy shot and multiple other cars in a big accident, I saw the vehicle flee and supposedly they found the car, it wasn't a good scene," said an eyewitness who didn't want to appear on camera.
There is no description of the suspect yet.
