Man attacked, robbed on Nassau Community College campus

EAST GARDEN CITY -- Police say a 20-year-old man was attacked on the campus of a Long Island college, and they are looking for two suspects.

They say the victim was leaving a Nassau Community College building in East Garden City Tuesday afternoon when two men approached him.

Police say one of the suspects struck the victim on the head with a handgun and stole his watch, cellphone and gold chain. The two then fled in a gray Ford Mustang.

The victim suffered a bruise to his face.

Nassau Community College Vice President for Facilities Management Dr. Joseph Muscarella released the following statement.

"The reported incident that occurred on the evening of March 3 on the NCC campus is under investigation by the Nassau County Police Department. It is apparent that the victim knew one of the alleged assailants. The Public Safety Department of NCC is cooperating fully with the investigation and asks members of the campus community to report any suspicious activity immediately to the Department of Public Safety at 516-572-7100."

College officials and police assure people that adequate security is in place, and that incidents such as this are rare.
