NEW YORK (WABC) -- Robin Roberts said emceeing the U.S. women's soccer ticker-tape parade was a "drop-the-mic moment" for her career.

"What a moment for this history, for this city, for women's athletics to see not just young girls but young boys out here celebrating these young athletes," Roberts said.

Roberts spoke with Eyewitness News' Sade Baderinwa and Rob Powers after the parade was over Friday, sharing her own excitement for the team. She had the opportunity to talk with the team earlier in the morning.

"Now they just don't want this to be a moment, but to be able to springboard from here and to see even more equality for women within its force," Roberts said.

For Roberts, hosting this event was very personal.

"As a proud product of Title 9, as a woman who played sports at a time when it wasn't really embraced, to see this and to see the level of play, just warms my heart. And then to be emcee, a drop-the-mic moment for me in my career," Roberts said.
