RUMSON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two boys are safe after falling through ice while walking on a frozen river in New Jersey Monday afternoon.
The incident happened near 1st Street in Rumson around 1 p.m., when authorities say the boys -- both about 12 -- started walking on the Navesink River near Victory Park.
The ice apparently gave way, with one boy falling into the water. The second boy reportedly tried to help and also fell in the water.
Officials say they were in the water for about three minutes before getting themselves out. They were already walking home when police arrived.
They did not require hospitalization.
Police said the ice has thawed, and they are warning people to stay off and exercise caution.
