Long Island CPA facing more charges of bilking clients

SEAFORD (WABC) -- An certified public accountant is expected to surrender Tuesday to face criminal charges in Riverhead for the second time in seven months.

Forty-eight-year-old Scott Meyer, of Seaford, is a former partner of the Johnson and Meyer accounting firm in Huntington.

Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota says Meyer will face new charges of taking even more money, after he was previously charged with stealing $800,000 from elderly clients.

Meyer was charged in the initial indictment with six counts of grand larceny in the second degree for allegedly victimizing an 80-year-old Greenport man suffering from dementia, a disabled victim living in an assisted living facility in California and a not-for-profit cemetery association in Huntington.

"The defendant allegedly stole more than $800,000 from the two senior citizens and the not-for profit-group by acting as the victims' accountant and writing checks to himself from his clients' accounts," Spota said.
