New York Liberty rookie guard Sabrina Ionescu will not need surgery on her sprained left ankle, the team announced Saturday.
Ionescu, the No. 1 pick in this year's WNBA draft, has not played since suffering the Grade 3 sprain in the Liberty's third game of the season July 31.
The team had previously said surgery was not expected, but she traveled to New York earlier this month to see an ankle and foot specialist.
The Liberty did not provide an update on a possible timeline for Ionescu's return to the court. A Grade 3 sprain is a full tear of the ankle ligament and usually requires months to fully heal.
The Liberty (1-11) face the Connecticut Sun (5-8) on Saturday.
