The offensive struggles continued for both sides as the New York Red Bulls and host Toronto FC played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday.

Toronto (2-4-7, 13 points) has been shut out in three straight games while New York (2-4-7, 13 points) has managed just two goals in its past five contests.

The Red Bulls and Toronto share the MLS lead in draws this season.

The two sides played to a scoreless first half. Toronto held the edge in possession, keeping the ball for 53 percent of the opening 45 minutes.

Toronto striker Federico Bernardeschi had a chance to end his six-game goal drought in the 29th minute from just to the left of the penalty spot, but Red Bulls defender John Tolkin got his right foot on it at the top of the goal area to deflect it out of the box past the boundary line.

The Red Bulls came close to breaking the ice early in the second half when Elias Manoel beat goalkeeper Sean Johnson with a chip shot but couldn't tuck it under the crossbar.

Toronto's Lorenzo Insigne attempted a header at the left of the goal area off a cross from Bernadeschi in the 79th minute, but goalkeeper Carlos Coronel got his hands in front to deflect it away.

Each goalie was credited with three saves.

Toronto FC will visit Austin FC on Saturday, the same day the Red Bulls play host to CF Montreal.
