The New York Yankees activated left-hander CC Sabathia from the injured list Saturday to make his season debut in a start against the Chicago White Sox.

Sabathia underwent knee and heart procedures this past offseason ahead of what he has said will be the final season of his career. Additionally, Sabathia served a five-game suspension stemming from the end of the 2018 regular season.

The 38-year-old's return to the active roster is a rare bit of good injury news for the Yankees, who still have 11 players on the injured list.

To make room for Sabathia on the roster, the Yankees optioned lefty Stephen Tarpley to Triple-A after Friday's rain-shortened loss to the White Sox.
