BRENTWOOD (WABC) -- A Suffolk County police officer is being hailed as a hero after he revived a baby who fell into a pool in Brentwood Thursday night.

Police responded to a call of a 16-month-old baby who was found unresponsive in the pool at 7:47 p.m.

Officer Ramses Cerdas scaled a neighboring fence and immediately grabbed the baby from his mother and started performing CPR at 7:49 p.m.

The baby then began to vomit water and breathe on his own.

He was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. He was awake, fully alert and responsive. The baby is being held at the hospital for observation.

Investigators responded to check the legality of the pool installation.
