He was pronounced dead at South Nassau Communities Hospital at 11:58 p.m.
Police say a second man was brought to the burn unit at Nassau University Medical Center for burns on his arms and hands. It's not clear if the man was in the bathroom or hurt during the rescue.
Four police officers were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Thomas Kakareko.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
