Man dead after police-involved shooting

Queens Somerville resident, Eugenia Parker, was awakened by those shots.

Police say they recovered this gun at the scene, a 38 caliber Beretta. They say 3 anti-crime officers approached the man at about 1:40 a.m., and that he turned, pulled out a gun and fired one shot, so officers returned fire shooting him in the head.

The man was taken a half mile up the street to Peninsula General Hospital where he died.

Police were still at the scene more than 10-hours after the shooting.

A team of detectives are going door to door asking if anyone had seen or heard anything. Many along the street did not, saying they were surprised to wake up to the police activity.

Police say the man had a long violent criminal history.

Police says since the first of the year, this was the 8th time officers have had guns pulled out.

A move, unfortunately this time, costs a young man his life.
