Police say a man who was apparently hacked to death with a machete in his Long Island backyard had been overheard arguing with someone about two hours before his landlord found his body. Suffolk County police Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said Saturday that police hadn't pinpointed a suspect or a possible motive for the brutal killing.

The victim's body was found Friday night on the fenced Peterson Street property, with a machete lying nearby. Fitzpatrick says the person who heard the argument also noticed "loud screaming" but didn't call police.

Police haven't released the victim's name but say he was about 25 to 30 years old. They say he'd lived for about a month in the home, which is divided into several apartments.
