Deadly accident on Long Island

We are following a developing story where one person is dead after an accident on Long Island. One of Rockville Centers busiest main streets was shut down for hours today while homicide investigators cleared a 52-year-old woman's body from the middle of Merrick road.

It happened around 11 a.m. when police say the woman left a doctor appointment and the next thing she knew she was face down in the street. An eyewitness says the suspect initially got our and looked but then got in the car and took off.

With the help of witness accounts cops found the suspects vehicle ditched on the side of the road in nearby Oceanside, quickly catching up with the male driver and making an arrest.

There is no word yet on the victim's identity: Authorities were withholding her name until next of kin can be notified.
