Suspect in Elizabeth murder surrenders

Father of eight killed Tuesday night
ELIZABETH Officials confirm that 25-year-old Wayne Bilal Hix turned himself in to authorities. Hix is accused of stabbing Brian Graham to death outside a grocery store in Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, Graham's family is pleading for an end to the violence. Members of the community held a vigil Wednesday to remember the 51-year-old father of eight, who was killed outside the Pink Loves Styx store Tuesday evening.

Police say the incident began inside the store, where Graham and his son were apparently arguing with Hix. Then, when the three walked outside, police say the dispute escalated. Graham allegedly kicked Hix, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed him, according to authorities.

Pink Loves Styx is located on Third Street, between Magnolia and Bond streets. The stabbing is the fifth unsolved murder in five months in that section of Elizabeth, known as Elizabethport.

A cousin of Graham has been an activist against the violence in town.

"Right now I'm at a loss of words," James Curry said. "It's hit home now. I can't speak for everyone else's family, but right now, I'm at a loss of words."
