Teen killed in another Far Rockaway shooting

FAR ROCKAWAY Police say the victim, 16-year-old Tyrese Johnson, was gunned down at Beach 22nd Street and Mott Avenue just before 2:30 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to community members.

Relatives of the victim wept in the streets Monday, as police investigate what they say appears to be a gang-related shooting.

Authorities say the teen and another young man were walking down the street when gunfire seemed to erupt from everywhere.

The gunfire erupted one block away from where five people were shot Saturday morning. All five survived that barrage of bullets.

Community leaders held a 7:30 p.m. rally at 1270 Red Fern Avenue in Far Rockaway, where 15-year-old Brandon Bethea was killed over the weekend.

They gathered to rally against the ongoing gunfire in the community.

They will also hold an 11 a.m. news conference Tuesday with the family of the girl, where they will post a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of her killer.
