Sewage mess forces out couple

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS - All week, Eve Armstrong and her boyfriend, Wayne Yeager, slept in their midtown office instead of their Washington Heights apartment.

Their toilet spewed raw sewage all over their basement apartment last weekend.

Flies are everywhere. Even with masks, the stench made us gag. Simply put: it's repulsive.

"The waste basket sitting next to the top was filled," said Yeager.

The couple was out of town last weekend. When Yeager returned on Sunday, he couldn't believe his eyes. Rugs soaked, tiles soiled, and toilet splattered in sewage.

Then he couldn't believe his ears when the property management company didn't return their calls.

"Management has not responded," Armstrong told us.

The couple is trying to salvage what they can, but Armstrong said there's easily 35-thousand dollars in damage. She's more worried about her suspecting neighbors. The neighbors were stunned when we showed them what's next door.

"They need to clean that up," one told us.

Armstrong and Yeager planned to stay with family on Friday.

Another tenant says the management company is excellent and she's surprised.

We haven't heard from the property management company yet.
