Homeowner turns tide on intruder

LAKEWOOD Authorities say Lakewood Police were dispatched to East County Line Road just after 5 a.m. following a 911 call from a homeowner who indicated that he had shot an intruder with a handgun within his residence.

The suspect was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune to be treated for a gunshot wound to the head area and is currently listed in critical condition.

The intruder was identified as 31-year-old Eric Tucker. An extensive investigation conducted by both Lakewood police and the prosecutor's Homicide Unit resulted in the additional arrests of 38-year-old Corey Morgan and 30-year-old Charles Cobb.

Authorities say Tucker broke a window and entered the house with the intention of then letting in Morgan and Cobb.

They are charged with the burglary stemming from the aforedescribed incident and bail has been set at $50,000.

Anyone with information is requested to contact Lakewood Det. Greg Staffordsmith at 732-363-0200 ext. 5341 or Prosecutor's Senior Investigator Sandra Rodriguez at 732-929-2027 ext. 2570.
