Accident causes delays to Springsteen concert

NEW JERSEY New Jersey Turnpike spokesman Joe Orlando said the exits at 16W from the turnpike were closed for three hours because the tanker was leaking propane.

The tanker is still there. Citing safety issues, Orlando said crews would not attempt to move the truck until after the concert.

Thousands of fans were very late for the scheduled 7:30 p.m. concert. Springsteen in turn delayed taking the stage until around 9:30.

Orlando says motorists using the turnpike were able to get to the stadium by heading to exit 18W, where they were directed to ramps leading to the stadium.

Orlando also said motorists on Route 3 were facing heavy traffic by the stadium. He said the only access at 16W was for drivers going onto the turnpike's southbound lanes.
