Police search for suspect in deadly stabbing

HICKSVILLE, NY Police believe the victim visiting from Kuwaitt was trying to protect her daughter.

Police are looking for 34-year-old Harpal Hira as a person of interest in the fatal stabbing of his 56-year-old mother-in- law and stabbing of his wife.

It happened Saturday night at this two story brick house in Syosset.

"There was a verbal argument between the wife and husband but I will not get into what started this. That's under investigation," said Det. lt. John Azzata.

Police say the wife called 911 saying her mother had been stabbed multiple times .

When police arrived they found 56-year-old Meenah Kohli dead inside the home and at that point her 23-year-old daughter, who called for help, was on the front lawn with lacerations on her face and arms.

"I mean husband and wife sometimes fight but not this kind of bad thing," said Richard Yi .

Police say Hira wasn't supposed to be at the house Saturday since there was an order of protection against him.

Cops arrested Hira in June at the home for allegedly physically assaulting his wife..

But detectives say despite all of that she invited him over for cake saturday to be part of a monthly birthday celebration for their three month old twin boys

Police say the twin boys are safe and their mother is still in the hospital.

They say their father, Harpal Hira ,was staying in hotels.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 1-800- 244-TIPS.
