A 24-year-old triathlete from North Carolina with a prosthetic leg is working as a ball girl at the U.S. Open in New York City. Kelly Bruno says although she is a competitive athlete, the job is hard because it involves "a lot of sprinting and standing."

Prosthetic feet, she explains, "aren't designed for standing or for quick acceleration."

Bruno, who lives in Durham, N.C., was born without a lower leg bone, and has worn a prosthetic from a very young age.

She was one of two amputees who applied for a job as a ball person at the Open. The other one was hired as a court attendant.

Bruno, a Duke University graduate, has competed in the New York City Triathlon for the last five years.
