Another home invasion on Long Island

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Suffolk County police say two men entered a Smithtown home where a couple and their four children were asleep early Tuesday. The husband told police he awoke to find the men, one armed with a handgun, standing over his bed. The burglars tied the couple's hands, stole cash and jewelry and fled.

Detectives say the Smithtown home invasion is similar to recent crimes in Islip and Lindenhurst, where residents awakened to find burglars, who robbed their cash and valuables.

Police are also investigating to see if there are any links to two home invasion burglaries in Melville over the past two weeks.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
