WYANDANCH Police say the burglary ring was operated out of Wyandanch and struck several homes in Melville, Deer Park, Islip, Copiague and Smithtown. A search warrant was executed at 270 State Avenue in Wyandanch early Friday morning. Authorities say six people were arrested and a fully-loaded .09-mm handgun, two shotguns and proceeds from the burglaries were seized.
Five men are facing charges of first-degree burglary and robbery. They have been identified as:
18-year-old Tyrone Simpson
18-year-old Andy Sukram
21-year-old Byran Bethea, Jr.
18-year-old Benjamin Gains
19-year-old Jamal Bishop
Eighteen-year-old Steven Brison is facing charges of criminal possession of stolen property.
The homes burglarized were at the following locations:
Wilmington Drive, Melville, on August 26
Brennan Place, Deer Park, on August 26
Roundtree Drive, Melville, on September 4
St. Marks Lane, Islip, on September 8
Lido Promenade West, Copiague, on September 8
North Ingelore Court, Smithtown, on September 9
"As it quickly became apparent these break-ins were related, police commissioner (Richard) Dormer and I made the resources available for an intensive investigation, which has resulted in the six arrests today," Suffolk County executive Steve Levy said. "Suffolk remains the safest suburban county in the nation because of the fast and thorough efforts of our police department and its outstanding officers."
The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected.
