Police say Officer Joseph Cossolini shot Markieth Singleton twice while Cossolini's partner, Officer Joseph Stelze, was wrestling with Singleton over a handgun.
The officers pulled over the SUV while investigating reports of a light-colored SUV used in a robbery earlier in the night.
Singleton was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. Sunday.
