Report: Belmar mayor wrong about SI

STATEN ISLAND An analysis of Belmar police department records by The New York Daily News has found that of 190 arrests made in the Jersey shore town between May 29 and Sept. 1, only 11 of the defendants were from Staten Island. That's less than six percent.

Pringle had blamed summer visitors from Staten Island for ruining his town's quality of life.

He said comments made in a newsletter to summer renters were meant as a joke.

Pringle has since apologized and taken a tour of Staten Island which he called "an eye-opening experience."

He declined to comment to The Daily News on the latest findings.
