Bag spurs evacuation at Newark airport

TRENTON, N.J. But officials eventually determined the item was harmless.

Portions of Terminal B were cleared after the bag was found at about 3:10 p.m., and some airport roadways also were shut down.

The Essex County Bomb Squad and the Newark Fire Department were called in, and the affected area was shut down for less than an hour while they examined the item.

Pasquale DiFulco, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, says the partial evacuation and road closures are standard procedure for such incidents.
