Parish seeks owner of ring

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. Workers at St. Mary's By-The-Sea Parish in Point Pleasant Beach discovered a 54-year-old gold wedding band in a bag of canned goods donated for the parish's Thanksgiving food drive.

The man who found it wants to get it back to its rightful owner.

John Griggs, a retired firefighter living in Bay Head, told The Star-Ledger of Newark that the ring was in a white plastic bag from Joe Leone's, an Italian specialty store. It has an inscription with a date from 1954.

Parish workers estimate the bag was dropped off sometime before 10:30 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 14.
