NYC shopping deals this weekend

NEW YORK There are a couple of places where you can get great deals, and help others in the process.

Alison Richards gets the help she needs at the Women's Health Center in downtown Brooklyn.

Housing Works opened the $3 million area which features a kids area, dental and medical offices and counseling.

The clients are women like Alison who are HIV positive.

Housing Works raises money by selling donated clothing and furniture at its thrift stores Those stores are actually doing well right now.

While sales are up, donations are down so that's why this week's special sale, called fashion for action is so important.

It features new clothes, by top designers for 50-80 percent off.

Meanwhile, in midtown, the posh sale features everything for the home couches, dishes, rugs and lots and lots of lamps.

The items have all been donated to Lighthouse International, a non-profit that fights vision loss.

Its programs are dependent on the generosity of others and in a tight economy, expectations have to be tempered.

Something to consider if you're in the market for furniture or clothes your purchases, on good deals, can help others lead better lives.
