Conn. gov. orders early release of workers

December 19, 2008 7:32:04 AM PST
Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell has ordered non-critical state workers to go home early because of a storm that is expected to dump seven to 16 inches of snow across the state. Rell directed a staggered release of employees Friday morning.

Workers will be released at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The governor also opened the state's Emergency Operations Center to monitor the storm and respond to any problems.

The governor says she wants to make sure people get off the roads and home safely before the peak of the storm hits.

The state Judicial Branch has also announced that all courts will be closing around noon because of the weather.

Local officials across the state canceled school Friday.
