Madam gets prison in Spitzer case

A woman who helped run the prostitution ring that brought down former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been sentenced to six months in prison. Cecil Suwal was sentenced Thursday by a federal judge in Manhattan.

Prosecutors had asked the judge to give the young madam around two years in prison for her role in managing the Emperors Club VIP escort service.

Her lawyer said she deserved leniency.

Suwal was only 20 years old when she got involved in the business through a boyfriend who was nearly three times her age.

The defense says he psychologically dominated her during the four years they were together, leaving her incapable of making independent decisions.

Suwal pleaded guilty last spring to charges involving money laundering and promoting prostitution.
