Search resumes for missing woman

A search for a Brooklyn woman missing since December has been renewed, with scores of police and firefighters searching along upstate roadways and wooded areas. Volunteers joined Saturday in the hunt for clues to the whereabouts of Laura Garza. The 25-year-old Brooklyn was last seen December 3 with convicted sex offender Michael Mele in Newburgh, about 60 miles north of New York City. Police say Mele is a person of interest but hasn't been charged in Garza's disappearance.

Saturday's search focused on areas about 20 miles west of Newburgh, near where police in December found a piece of carpet they believe may be from Mele's apartment.

Snow and bad weather have hampered the search in the meantime and appear likely to do so again Sunday.
