Dispute centers on Nassau Coliseum name

UNIONDALE Developers of the new coliseum and real estate investor Lighthouse Group have agreed to give veterans groups $1 million and other benefits in return for giving up the name.

The United Veterans Organization of Nassau, which represents 29 groups, accepted the offer Sunday.

Opponents include Richard Gales of the Nassau Veterans of Foreign Wars. He says the current name is a "living memorial."

Nassau officials contend that since the coliseum name is in the county charter, a name change would require a legislative vote.
