The world's largest AIDS fund-raising event took place on the streets of Manhattan Sunday. More than 45,000 people participated in the annual AIDS walk.

And despite being in a recession, walkers beat estimates and raised $5.6 million for AIDS education and research.

During the 6.2-mile walk, participants walked up through Central Park, down Riverside Drive and finished up back in the park.

The annual event started back in 1986 and has raised more than $100 million.
