Police in Jersey City are looking for a hit and run driver who critically injured a man. The victims remains in an induced coma, police said.

He was struck by a hit-and-run driver at 1:30 p.m. Saturday while going to meet his wife at the Newport Centre mall.

Jersey City Police have released surveillance video of the crime.

The graphic video shows 51-year-old Ricardo Torres walking into the street and immediately waving toward a black pickup truck. That trucks strikes Torres and keeps going.

Police say the driver accelerated and swerved to dislodge the victim from the vehicle.

A second surveillance camera shows the truck two blocks away at Marin and Eighth Street and continuing on Marin. The accident happened just several blocks from the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

Police estimate the vehicle was traveling 35 to 40 mph in an area where the speed limit is 25 mph.

Torres lost a kidney, fractured his pelvis, suffered facial injuries and had his spleen removed.

Torres was in critical condition Wednesday at Jersey City Medical Center.

Police continue to search for the truck, which had a silver toolbox in the bed.

Jersey City police are hoping that the public can help identify the pickup truck involved. Police are asking that anyone with information to call (201) 547-JAIL.
