Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said the couple appeared to have used helium gas and plastic bags and had left a note.
However, he would not discuss the note's contents and said his office was trying to confirm who wrote it.
"It could be an attempted suicide, but we are not prepared to classify the event that way," DeFazio told The Jersey Journal of Jersey City. "For now, it is a suspicious death pending further investigation."
