Police rescue 7 boaters in LI Sound

Police are credited with rescuing seven people - including three children - from a sinking boat in Long Island Sound. A boat towing company called police on Tuesday night to report the craft was sinking off Stony Brook, N.Y., during a rainstorm.

The frantic boaters were waving flashlights and screaming for help when Suffolk County police arrived. Much of the boat's emergency equipment had been washed overboard in the rough seas.

No injuries were reported. The children - ages 5, 9 and 10 - all had on life jackets.
