Arrests after NJ child watches animal sacrifices

July 8, 2009 8:23:31 AM PDT
Three people are accused of cutting a child and making her watch animal sacrifices as part of a religious ritual in northern New Jersey. The suspects, including the girl's mother, are charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say the ritual was performed inside a home in Paterson in May.

A search of the home uncovered a shrine, religious statues, bones, machetes, dolls and sticks with numbers and names on them.

Passaic County prosecutors have not said what religious ritual was observed.
