Horrific car crash kills 2 in the Bronx

    p Police say an SUV struck a livery car at the intersection of Laconia and Waring avenues just before midnight in the Pelham Parkway secton of the Bronx.

    The force of the collision apparently ejected a woman in her 20s from the back seat of the livery car.

    Her body hurtled over a 6-foot-tall fence and onto the property of the Pelham Parkway Nursing Home.

    Eyewitness News is told a stunned passersby rushed to help the drivers trapped in both vehicles.

    The Good Samaritans helped put out fires that broke out in both cars.

    Poilce say the 41-year-old driver of the livery car was pulled from the burning wreckage and rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

    The 27-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a Mazda SUV, was rushed to Jacobi in critical condition.

    Authorities responding to the crash did not immediately realize the woman had been thrown from the wreckage and did not find her body for nearly 40 minutes.

    A security guard saw the woman on a surveillance camera. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The cause of the crash is under investigation.
