Seven water mains break in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY The breaks occurred at New York and Ravine, JFK and Thome, Hauge and Paterson Plank and Cambridge between Summit and Central.

Some customers in high rises in Heights section may have little or no water pressure, because pressure is not getting into the buildings.

United Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers on the following streets:

NY Avenue between Palisades Ave and Ravine Road
Hague Street between Summit Ave and Paterson Plank Road
Congress Street between Palisades Ave and Webster Ave
Cambridge Ave between Hutton Street and Sherman Ave
Bleecker Street between Summit Ave and Palisades Ave

Customers on those streets only are advised to boil their water for one minute for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption. Customers should continue to boil their water until further notice.

A malfunction at a pump station may have caused higher than normal pressures in the distribution system, leading to the breaks, officials said.

Repairs have been completed to the pump station and water pressure should return to normal by about 8 p.m.

Customers on the streets noted above should continue to boil their water until further notice.
