Dad dead, son injured in jet ski crash

LAWRENCE Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened.

The accident happened along the water in Lawrence, Long Island just after 5 o'clock Saturday evening.

Detectives said the father and his son were on the same jet ski when it slammed into a homeowner's personal dock at 232 Causeway in Lawrence.

The accident was near the Cedarhurst Yacht Club.

The man, a father, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His 5-year-old son was brought to Nassau University Medical Center. He is said to be in serious condition with head trauma.

They are from Queens.

Neighbors say the owner was not home and the victims were not visiting. They apparently launched the jet ski from a different place.

Police continued to comb the large lot and brush for hours after the accident trying to figure out what happened.

Detectives were working to reach the victims' family.
