They saw a man and a woman 100 feet form the shore in distress and screaming for help.
One of the women, Mirvete Ukperaj of Bellmore, entered the water and helped the woman in getting to shore while the second woman, Judy Greenberg of Syosset, called 911.
A Jones Beach Lifeguard, T.J. Maresca, entered the water and pulled the man to shore where CPR was initiated.
Both victims were taken to Nassau University Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at 8:00 p.m. The woman was listed in stable condition.
Their names were withheld pending notification of the family.
