Van slams into woman in Queens park

FLUSHING MEADOW It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday inside Flushing Meadow Park in Queens.

According to witnesses, the white van was weaving in and out of traffic on the Van Wyck Expressway.

The van then apparently sped down an off ramp, collided with a parked car, hopped a curb and hit the woman.

Eyewitness News is told the victim was simply enjoying a picnic with family at the park.

There were reportedly about a dozen people on the grassy area at Flushing Meadow Park.

One witness said she saw the whole thing unfold.

"The white van was on the expressway, changing lane to lane and going very fast," she said. "For some reason, it then turned towards the park, came on the grass, crashed into a blue car then hit one of the girls. She went flying up into the air and then the van just kept going and spinning around, eventually around the tree."

Police told Eyewitness News the woman is in critical condition at a nearby local hospital.

There were reportedly two men in the white van at the time of the accident. The driver, 49-year-old Jian Feng is charged with reckless driving, endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.
