Pepper spray forces school evacuation

BRONX At least a dozen students and teachers from the Bronx High School For the Arts, on the campus of Roosevelt High School, were being treated.

Someone apparently sprayed pepper spray in the fourth floor cafeteria of the school on East Fordham Road just after 1:00 p.m.

A dozen students and two staff members were taken to area hospitals with symptoms for difficulty breathing. EMS also treated several people at the scene.

The school was evacuated as authorities staff aired out the building.

Fire department gave clearance to re-enter at 3:15 p.m. Students and staff collected their belongings and went home for dismissal.

The school has an enrollment of 425 students.
