Widow of NYPD Lt. sues NYC

NEW YORK Susan Pigott said Monday that her husband, Michael Piggott, was devastated by the possibility of criminal charges. He killed himself eight days after ordering the use of the stun gun on a man during a Brooklyn standoff. The man was waving a large fluorescent bulb; he fell to his death when he was stunned.

When the department took away Michael's gun and badge, he feared he would never again be permitted to work in the elite Emergency Services Unit.

Susan says her husband was driven to suicide after police commissioner Ray Kelly and a spokesman indicated police mishandled their response to an emotionally disturbed man.

Iman Morales was standing naked on the ledge of his apartment building in Brooklyn.

Lieutenant Pigott was in charge of the team that responded.
