Fatal hit and run driver turns herself in

BAY RIDGE Eyewitness News is told the victim, Harry Lewner of Cedarhurst, was struck twice while crossing Fourth Avenue near 79th Street just before 9:15 p.m. last night.

Lewner was first struck by a northbound Kia Sedan that did not stop. He was then reportedly struck by a southbound Honda that stayed.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses said he was tossed into the air by the impact of the crash.

The driver of the Kia, with heavy front drivers' side damage, apparently turned up nearly 90 minutes later on the Lower East Side.

She was taken into custody a police precinct.

Police say 21-year-old Karissa McFaline of Bristol, Conn., was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Detectives were trying to account for her whereabouts between the time she left the crash scene and arrived in Manhattan.

The 57-year-old driver of the Honda was not charged.
